He is thus second in line to the titular throne of Bulgaria. On August 15, 2008, the then 10-years-old prince's father, Kardam, the Prince of Turnovo, was wounded severely in a serious car accident in El Molar, near Madrid. Although he did not die, Kardam however suffered a grave trauma and his survival (and longer life) is still precarious. He is in any case somewhat handicapped. Impairment of his communicative abilities would probably mean a regency if the monarchy were in function and he would be its nominal head. The young Boris is next for the position of the heir of the deposed king Simeon, who is over seventy. Should Kardam die, Boris will be the first in line, in other words, the heir of the Bulgarian royal house. So, if he become a Tsar, he would be Boris IV of Bulgaria.
