(February 2009) Catholic Christian Outreach (CCO) is a Canadian national university student movement dedicated to evangelization. They challenge young adults to live in the fullness of the Catholic faith, with a strong emphasis on becoming leaders in the renewal of the world. It is an incorporated non-profit organization. CCO was started in 1988 by André and Angèle Regnier in response to the needs of Catholic university students; to help them grow in their faith and to learn to share it with others. Its primary goal is to reach out to Catholic students; however, all young adults of all faith backgrounds are welcome. CCO follows a model called Proclaim, Equip, Commission; they focus on one person at a time, provide them with the tools to share their faith, and then send them out to evangelize others. Mission Projects CCO has organized domestic and international mission trips including IMPACT!, Rencontrez Jesus, and World Youth Day 2008 Recent international trips have been made to China and Uganda, with an upcoming follow-up trip to Uganda in the summer of 2010 Methods and Materials Students involved with CCO lead and attend weekly faith studies on campus. These faith studies help students learn more about their faith and how they can live it out. The material references Scripture verses from the Bible, the Catechism of the Catholic Church, and other Christian writings. They also employ analogies, useful in sharing spiritual realities in common terms. The studies are intended to fuel discussion in a comfortable, small group setting. The four studies are called Discovery, Source, Growth and Obedience. Another popular method of evangelization used by CCO is on-campus events for large groups of students. One-on-one ministry training and leadership opportunities are available. Students attend retreats, recreational events, and other social and prayer related activities as well. CCO has created a booklet entitled The Ultimate Relationship which serves as an introduction to basic Christian faith, accompanied by colourful images (this is also available online). It has also produced a CD called Wonderful King, as well as various merchandise, which can be purchased online at CCO's online store. Three Circles Analogy In The Ultimate Relationship booklet, coloquially known as the "UR", CCO introduces the Three Circle Analogy as a tool to aid in evangelization. The Analogy outlines three circles which represent levels of relationship with Christ and poses to the reader a question: where does the reader believe s/he stands in relationship with Christ? CCO takes great care to affirm that the circles are not gages of perfection, but rather levels of relationship. Many people struggling with the idea of being in the Second Circle, as compared to the Third, are asked to compare their relationship to Christ with that of spouses in marriage. In the case of a committed relationship, the couple do not find themselves married and then unmarried at various points because of how they feel about each other. CCO argues that, in fact, someone who is in the Third Circle because of a conscious choice to "give their lives" to God does not enter the Second Circle because of momentary failure. CCO claims that serious or mortal sin imperils the soul and severs certain ties to God until remedied in the Sacrament of Reconciliation External links CCO’s website, including background information, links to city and campus ministries, and resources.
