It was the first single from their debut album Go West. "Missing Persons", also from the album, was a B-side. The other B-side was an "opposite song" called "They Open Their Noses".[1] The 12-inch release featured a remix by Julian Mendelsohn. subtitled the "Total Overhang Club Mix". The single was promoted by a music video directed by Godley & Creme.[2] The "Total Overhang Club Mix" was later included on the 1985 compilation Bangs & Crashes.[3] The standard version appeared again on Aces and Kings: The Best of Go West in 1993.[4] "We Close Our Eyes" spent fourteen weeks on the UK Singles Chart, peaking at number 5 in April 1985.[5] In the United States the single reached 41 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number 5 on the Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart.[6] A remix of the song was released in 1993 to promote the Aces and Kings retrospective.[7] The song was used in the 1985 Italian horror movie Dèmoni. In live versions of the song, the guitar break in the "Overhang Mixes" is often included.
