Hazrat Khawaja Syed Makhdoom Ashraf Jahangir Semnani (Urdu and Persian:سیداشرف جهانگیر سمنانی) (born 1308 and died 1405) was a Sufi Saint of both the Chishti and Qadiri Orders of Sufism. He was born in 708 AH (1308 CE) in Semnan, were his family originated from. He settled in Kicchocha Sharif, Ambedkar Nagar District, Uttar Pradesh in northern India, were he expanded the Chishti and the Qadiri orders, to a point were a branch of these orders was started after him, known as the Ashrafia order. Ashraf Jahangir Semnani was a direct descendent of the Prophet Muhammad's daughter Fatimah, through her son Husayn ibn Ali and his great grandson Ja'far al-Sadiq. His father was Syed Ibrahim Noor Bakshi. In 765 Hijri (1364 CE) he nominated his nephew Abd-ul-Razzaq Nur-ul-Ayn to be his successor. He died on the 28th Muharram 808 Hijri (July 26, 1405 CE), and his shrine is located in Kicchocha Sharif. See under Salim Chishti Salim Chishti was a greatly revered Sufi Mystic who, it was thought by many, could perform miracles. The Mughal Emperor Akbar-e-Azam went to the shrine of Hazrat Ashraf Jahangir Semnani, but on his travels, had received inspiration to go to see Salim Chishti. Akbar came to the holy man's camp, deep in the desert, seeking a male heir to his throne. Salim Chishti blessed Akbar, and soon the first of three sons was born to him. He named his first son Salim (later emperor Jahangir, named after the Famous Sufi Saint Hazrat Ashraf Jahangir Semnani) in honor of Salim Chishti. His life and work is recorded in Latayefe Asharfi. Though rewritten and published by many the most authentic is considered from the various books of Dr. Syed Waheed Ashraf who belongs to the same family.
