It is named after former superintendent of the Cherokee County School District, Eugene Theodore Booth.[1] They educated students in grades 7-8. Students attending E.T. Booth Middle School have previously attended Chapman Intermediate School for grades five and six. Before that, the students were enrolled in Bascomb Elementary School, Boston Elementary School, or Oak Grove Elementary School for grades kindergarten to four. Booth has placed sixth in the state for Academic Bowl in the 2008-2009 school year. In the 2007-2008 school year, the team placed fourth. They have placed second in their county for the 2009-2010 school year behind Freedom Middle School. For Science Olympiad, the team placed ninth in the state during the 2008-2009 school year. The team has placed first in the county for the 2009-2010 school year. E.T. Booth also is involved in the Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl. Additionally, the Junior Leadership club frequently helps the community by holding fundraisers. The Junior Beta Club also helps the community, and the members recycle the teachers' papers weekly. E.T. Booth has high-performing volleyball and basketball teams. The Friends Club at E.T. Booth is a group of eight-grade students who help students with special needs. Band and chorus E.T. Booth has four bands for the 2009-2010 school year. The 7th grade beginner band is a group of seventh-graders with no experience of playing an instrument. The 7th grade intermediate band began playing the year before in sixth grade at Chapman. The 8th grade intermediate band plays at the same level as the 7th grade intermediate. These players began in seventh grade. The 8th grade advanced band began playing in sixth grade. This band plays the most advanced pieces of music. E.T. Booth bands annually attend LGPE (Large Group Performance Evaluation), which is held in March, and Festival Disney in late April and early May. In the 2008-2009 school year, two flutists in the 7th grade band were given the honor of attending All-District Band in February. Both eight-grade bands go to an Etowah High School football game and play with Etowah's marching band. This day is known as "Eighth-Grade Night." E.T. Booth has two chorus groups, one for eighth grade and one for seventh grade. Some of the songs are in foreign languages, including French, an old version of Spanish, and Italian. The chorus has an elite group of eight-grade girls in a girls' ensemble program called "Bella Voche," Italian for "Pretty Voice." Chorus attends Festival Disney as well. The band and chorus perform during school assemblies, such as the holiday program, the Veteran's Day program, the Red Ribbon Week program, and rising seventh grade orientation. Academic classes Every seventh grader takes social studies, reading, language arts, life science, and math. All subjects have an advanced program, and math additionally has an accelerated program. In accelerated math, students take eighth grade math, having already mastered the seventh grade standards. Eighth graders have the oppornutity to take Lit./Comp. and Spanish instead of reading and language arts. Teachers must recommend students to take these classes, and the student must have stellar grades. In the eighth grade year, a student taking accelerated math (9th grade honors math) also takes accelerated physical science. Connections Every quarter, a student at E.T. Booth is placed in two "Connections" classes. These classes intend to help students find a career. Band and Chorus count as Connections classes. These Connections last the whole year. Physical Education Physical Education, or P.E., classes are divided into boys and girls. There are three coaches for the boys, and there are also three coaches for the girls. Each smaller class is led by one of the coaches. These classes focus on the many sports, including lacrosse, softball, flag football, European handball, soccer, field hockey, and tennis. During the second marking period, students in P.E. take the Physical Fitness Test. Additionally, there are free days when students can play basketball, ping-pong, teatherball, or even talk in the bleachers. A student has P.E. the entire year, unless that student is in Band or Chorus. In that case, the student is only in P.E. for one quarter. Drama E.T. Booth's drama classes focus on theater and acting. Health The health classes focus on the affects of smoking, drugs, alcohol, and other harmful materials to the human body. Technology Technology classes are divided into "modules." Each student usually completes two modules per marking period. Some of the modules include robotics and engineering. Career Explorations Career Explorations focuses on getting the students to know themselves and exploring possible future careers after high school and college. Family and Consumer Science Family and Consumer Science (FACS) is also known as Home Economics. Students taking FACS also complete two modules, like in technology classes. Some modules include childcare, nutrition, cooking, budgeting, and trip planning. Math Success In Math Success, students do Successmaker, a computer program proven to boost students' math grades. This Connections class intends to make math grades higher. Art In Art, students learn art history and art vocabulary, and they complete projects, whether those projects be sculpting, paper mache, painting, or sketching. Cities To make the homework load a little bit easier on students, the students are divided up into "cities." Seventh Grade Cities Blue Ridge, Dublin, Pine Mountain, Silver City, and Tallulah Falls. Eighth Grade Cities Kingsland, Saint Simon's Island, Savannah, Sea Island, and Tybee Island. Field Day Each year, the students of E.T. Booth compete against each other as cities. Eighth Grade cities and Seventh Grade cities do not compete against each other. This is a very competitive outing and consists of two portions: Indoor events and outdoor events.
