(October 2008) Sleepovers is a book by Jacqueline Wilson published in 2001. The story is about Daisy, who hangs out with her friends Amy, Bella, Chloe and Emily: "The Alphabet Club", which was formed by Daisy herself. While she goes to their birthday sleepovers, she's worried that her brain-damaged sister Lily, wouldn't spoil her sleepover. Storyline The main character, Daisy, has just moved to a new school and has made friends with Amy, Bella, Chloe and Emily. They have a special secret Alphabet club, due to their names beginning with the first five letters of the alphabet (Amy, Bella, Chloe, Daisy and Emily) When Amy has a sleepover for her birthday, the others decide they will all do the same, but Daisy is worried about how her friends will react to her sister Lily, who has had special needs since she was born. Daisy is invited to Amy, Bella and Emily's sleepovers with no hesitation, but Chloe takes more persuading (she deliberately didn't invite Daisy, but covered this up by saying "her mum said she could only have three people there"), and only gives in when the others refuse to go unless Daisy can. At Daisy's party, Amy, Bella And Emily all like Lily but Lily got over-excited after seeing a toy teddy bear that was part of a present from Emily, and had to be put to bed. Chloe, who deliberately turned up late, took the micky out of Lily for having a rather large chair, and also warned Daisy she had better watch out or she'd be put to bed for over-excitedness. In the middle of the night Chloe needed to go to the toilet so she woke up Daisy and then hand in hand they both went inside upstairs. When they got to the top of the stairs Chloe got a bit scared because all she could hear was "UR UR UR UR UR" and she did not know that it was Lily (she thought it was a witch ghost from a white witchy ghost movie shown earlier that day), and she got scared and had a little accident so her face went all red. Daisy's dad had to take Chloe home in the middle of the night. The next day, Daisy's dad 'accidentally' tells, Amy, Bella and Emily about Chloe's accident. When it's just Daisy and Emily(Amy and Bella had already gone to their own homes), Emily admits that she doesn't like Chloe anymore, and that she might break friends with her, so she asks Daisy to be her best friend, who happily accepts. The day after next, at school, Chloe has met new friends and she was telling everyone what a bad time she had at Daisy's sleep over, including making more fun out of Lily by branding her as "this batty, loopy, maniac baby sister who screams all the time". Daisy, not liking that people laugh about her sister, confronts Chloe and tells her to leave Lily because of her illness, Emily states that she likes Lily, Amy says that Lily's special because she's got special needs, and Bella says it's a shame she can't do much, but "she does like chocolate". Chloe then asks why they're standing up for "Daisy Diddums" (the nickname that Chloe uses to bully Daisy) and her "loopy baby sister", but then Emily replies that Daisy and Lily weren't babies, and that Chloe herself was, making Chloe go red in the face, as she knows that Emily, Amy and Bella knew about her accident. While Chloe waited for Amy, Bella, Emily and Daisy to tell Chloe's new friends, while they waited for Chloe, possibly to apologize (or to admit herself that she had the accident). Then Chloe suddenly state that she doesn't want to be Emily's best friend, not to be friends with Amy and Bella, and that she wouldn't be friends with Daisy "if you were the last girl in the world" and goes off to join a new gang of girls. At the end of the book, Daisy explains how she is now best friends with Emily (much to her delight), and how she, Emily, Bella and Amy hang around together at school. She says that Chloe doesn't looks as if she likes it, but she couldn't do anything about it because they could tell everyone in the school about her accident. At the end she says: "It's all because of Lily! She's the best sister ever". The parties each have a different main activity, including Dancing and Dress-up (Amy), swimming (Bella), having a Teddy Bear's Picnic (Emily), Making pizzas and scary films (Chloe) and Camping in the garden(Daisy).
