(December 2008) LegitScript is a verification service for non-VIPPS-accredited online pharmacies[1] and the only such service recognised by the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy as adhering to its standards.[1] LegitScript was founded by John Horton, who was a White House aide on drug policy issues from 2002 to 2007.[2] The organization's main office is located in Arlington, Virginia.[3] In July 2008, LegitScript and KnujOn released a report about 150 websites that offer to sell anabolic steroids over the Internet without requiring a prescription.[4]. This report was also featured in the New York Times,[5] as well as on CNN's Anderson Cooper 360.[6] The report resulted in the termination of large underground steroids rings and controversy at pro-steroids forums.[7] In November 2008, LegitScript reported that it had shutdown 500 "rogue" internet pharmacies by complaining to their ISPs and domain registrars (such as Directi).[8] As of April 2010, LegitScript's website indicated that LegitScript had approved over 340 online pharmacy websites as meeting LegitScript's standards, and documented over 35,000 "rogue" online pharmacy websites.[9] References ^ a b http://www.nabp.net/ip.asp ^ http://www.mywesttexas.com/articles/2008/07/22/news/top_stories/steriod_sales_report.txt ^ http://www.fsmb.org/pdf/NCIP_Newsletter_Rx-Beat_Vol4_Issue2.pdf ^ http://www.reuters.com/article/pressRelease/idUS37508+21-Jul-2008+PRN20080721 ^ http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=9E07E4D91739F935A15754C0A96E9C8B63 ^ http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/podcasts/ac360/site/2008/06/26/cooper.podcast.wednesday.cnn ^ LegitScript Shuts Down 500 No-Prescription-Required Online Pharmacies, InformationWeek ^ http://www.marketwatch.com/news/story/Rogue-Internet-Pharmacies-Run-LegitScript/story.aspx?guid={2FF1A80A-1BE1-45F7-8118-4AFECB5D2422} ^ http://www.legitscript.com This United States corporation or company article is a stub.
